Scouting Rules
There are 20 scouts available for hire on 8-week contracts, including some recent retiree's from season 8.
The current list of scouts can be found on the SNIFL website here
Scouts will work on your behalf to find the best player they can from the pool of world football playing talent. Over an 8 week period he will evaluate the players he finds and will bring you at least one player he considers to be worthy of some attention. The first 4 weeks of his contract will be spent settling in and he will find no players. Each week a report with
scouting successes will be published.
If no player is found earlier, the scout will always find a player in his final week (week 8). Upon completion of the scouting period, the scout returns to the pool ready for re-employment.
If a scout finds a player, the full stats of the scouted player will be published and all managers will be given 48 hours to submit a sealed bid offer. At the end of the 48 hour period the valuation will be announced as the highest bid submitted. In the event that no sealed bids are submitted, the player valuation will be calculated at $100k per total of all skill points.
The scouting manager will be offered the option to buy the scouted player at the valuation less a discount based on the team's division. The discount will be:
Division 3: 45%
Division 2: 40%
Division 1: 35%
If the scouting manager declines to take the player, the highest bidder picks the transfer up. He/She has no option to decline - the bid is enforced, with all the repercussions of being in debt where necessary. The full amount bid will be deducted from
the winning bidder's finances - no discounts are applied. a percentage of the final transfer fee is refunded to the club who found the player as a sign-on fee:
Division 3: 45%
Division 2: 40%
Division 1: 35%
If nobody bids, and the scouting manager declines to take the option to purchase, a non-league team will sign the player at the calculated $100k per skill point value. None of the fee is refunded to the scouting club.
Scout purchases are announced in the standard way that all player purchases are - with an email through to the transfer office with the following details:
Subject line: SNIFL Scout Purchase tla
Body: contains the scouted valuation, the purchase price less discount, player skill levels, name and nationality. You may rename scouted purchases but not change their nationality.
What decides the quality of the player returned?
You have three areas to consider which affects the scouted player.
1. The approximate parameters for the scouted players is unknown, but youths could reach up to around skill 7 or 8 and seniors 10-ish.
2. The scout's skill level impacts on the skill of the player found. The higher the skill, the better the chance of a scout find, and the higher the skill of the found player. There are no guarantees and the highest skill scout could find the worst player,
and the lowest skill scout could find the best.
3. The position and age of the players that the scout has been tasked with searching. This is explained below.
Yth Sen
Name Nat Age Tsk Tsk Clb Pos Type Wks
-----------------------------------------------------
Aureli_Altimira ESP 35 21 35 stl ANY Yth 8
Simon_Hunt RSA 40 35 18 lor DEF Senr 8
In the example above, two scouts are listed. Their nationalities do not affect issues, and neither do their ages. Aureli has a skill of 21 when searching for youth (age 16-19) players and a skill of 35 when searching for seniors (age 20+). Simon has a skill of 18 when searching for seniors and a skill of 35 when looking for youths. Clb is the abbreviated name of the club that has employed the scout. Pos is how you specify which position you would like the scout to look for. The choices are:
GLK - goalkeeper
DEF - defender
MID - midfielder
ATT - attacker
ANY - (self explained)
By selecting ANY you have approximately a 5% extra chance of finding a player - however you might not get a player that is worth much to you.
How do I bid for a scout?
To bid for a scout, look at the Player Scouts list on the www.snifl.com website and click on the name of an unemployed scout. You have to be logged in to place your bid.
How much should I bid?
You can bid as much as you're budget allows. But the MINIMUM bid price for a scout is the scouts tsk (total skill) multiplied 10,000. e.g.
Name Nat Age Tsk
Kevin_Moore AUS 49 41
The minimum bid price is 41(tsk) X 10,000 = 410,000 snifls.
There is only 1 bid for a scout per week allowed, except for the first week where multiple bids are allowed. If you have the highest bid for more than one scout, you will be allocated the highest skilled scout. In the case of 2 equivalent bids on the same scout, the club lowest placed in the league will get the scout.
Please no multiple bids - one bid (email) per scout.
How many scouts can I hire?
You may hire as many scouts as you like during the season, however, only ONE may be hired at any time.
All questions are welcome - but the scout system is now OFFICIALLY OPEN.
Thew results will be announced (hopefully) each Friday night, Melbourne time. Deadline for sealed bid auctions: 48 hours after player stats are announced (normally Sunday morning). Deadline for player purchase: after following weekend games (following
Saturday night usually).
Also, not only will you need a fat transfer fee, but you will need to pay them each week. The Commish keeps the details of scouts weekly wages. You do have the option to release your scout early from his employment should you feel he is not worth the large amount of money you are shelling out on him, but you will lose any potential finds he may make after you dismiss him. Just a word of warning for new managers. Scouting is not guaranteed to bring you back a superstar. Don't break the bank on the chance that a scout will find the next Kinky or Haramiko. It's more likely that your scout will return you a player who will either be a starter or fringe player.
